Israel Defies US On Settlement Freeze
Agence France Presse

Israel has dismissed a blunt US call for a halt to all Jewish settlement building on occupied Palestinian land, the latest sign Washington is hardening its tone towards its close ally. "Normal life" will be allowed in settlements in the occupied West Bank, government spokesman Mark Regev said, using a euphemism for continuing construction to accommodate population growth His comments marked an effective rebuff to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's declaration that President Barack Obama wants a stop to all settlement activity as he pushes for the revival of stalled peace talks.

Calm Voice, Big Stick: Netanyahu in Washington
Uri Avnery

No doubt Netanyahu asked for permission to attack Iran, or at the very least to threaten such an attack. The answer was a flat No. Obama is resolved to prevent an Israeli attack. He has warned the Israeli government unequivocally. Just to make sure that the message has been properly absorbed, he sent the CIA chief to Israel to deliver the message personally to every Israeli leader. The Israeli plan for a military attack on Iran has been taken off the table if it was ever lying there ... To do this, he must be ready to take on the powerful Israeli lobby. It seems that he is ready for that.

Abu Ghraib Abuse Photos Allegedly Show Rape of Prisoners
The Telegraph (Britain)

Photographs of alleged prisoner abuse which Barack Obama is attempting to censor include images of apparent rape and sexual abuse, it has emerged. / At least one picture shows an American soldier apparently raping a female prisoner while another is said to show a male translator raping a male detainee. Further photographs are said to depict sexual assaults on prisoners with objects including a truncheon, wire and a phosphorescent tube. Another apparently shows a female prisoner having her clothing forcibly removed to expose her breasts.

Zionist Eugenics: Do Not Have Children If They Won't Be Healthy!'
Haaretz (Israel) - 2004

A shocking study reveals how key figures in the pre-state Zionist establishment proposed castrating the mentally ill, sterilizing the poor and doing everything possible to ensure reproduction only among the `best of people. / Castrating the mentally ill, encouraging reproduction among families "numbered among the intelligentsia" and limiting the size of "families of Eastern origin" and "preventing ... lives that are lacking in purpose" - these proposals are not from some program of the Third Reich but rather were brought up by key figures in the Zionist establishment of the Land of Israel during the period of the British Mandate. It turns out there was a great deal of enthusiasm here for the improvement of the hereditary characteristics of a particular race (eugenics).

Hungary to Outlaw `Holocaust Denial
JTA

Holocaust denial and public incitement of racial hatred will be illegal under constitutional changes proposed by Hungarys Socialist minority administration. The proposed legislation is being drafted for publication within weeks. The government, preoccupied with the recession that has hit Eastern Europe hard and made Hungary the host of some of the worst neo-Nazi rabble in Europe, has planned the legal reform in response to public outrage at recent provocations. Education Minister Istvn Hiller has called for legislation to make Holocaust denial a punishable offense.

Ukrainian Nationalists Get Ban on Holocaust Film in Lvov Schools
Moscow News (Russia)

A documentary film about the Holocaust has incited the wrath of the Ukrainian nationalist organization Freedom, Lenta.ru and Jewish News (jn.com.ua) report. The film, an amateur production entitled Two Tangos, was shown once in Lvov to older Polish-speaking school children at a state school at the end of last year. The showing was sponsored by the Jewish NGO Chesed Aryeh as part of a program in the local schools to encourage tolerance. Local Freedom leader Ivan Grynda sent a complaint to the city prosecutor, claiming the showing constituted anti-Ukrainian activity.

AIPACs Hidden Persuaders: Preparations for Attack Against Iran
Richard Silverstein -- The Guardian (Britain)

The Israel lobby is aiming to soften up US public opinion for an attack on Iran. Americans should resist its propaganda / Israel is in the midst of a massive diplomatic, political and intelligence campaign, both public and covert, that could lead if those officials behind it have their way towards a military strike on Iran. It is a war for the hearts and minds of Americans. Or you might call it the war before the war Indeed, they are already a good deal of the way toward this goal, as the latest polling from Rasmussen Report reveals. According to it, 49% of Americans believe that if Israel attacks Iran then the US should help Israel.

There is No Military Option in Iran, Says Israel Lobby Insider
The Jerusalem Post (Israel)

There is no viable military option for dealing the Iranian nuclear threat, and efforts by the Israeli government and its supporters to link that threat to progress in peace with the Palestinians and Syria are "nonsense" and an obstacle to the Arab-Israeli and international cooperation essential to changing Iranian behavior. That's the conclusion of Keith Weissman, the Iran expert formerly at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), speaking publicly for the first time since the government dropped espionage charges against him and his colleague, Steve Rosen, earlier this month.

Behind the Iran Crisis: The Israel Lobbys Campaign for War
Mark Weber (2007)

The world is anxiously following the so-called crisis over Iran, or as Israel-firsters prefer to call it The Iranian Threat. This crisis is artificial. It is every bit as phony as the one manufactured to provide a pretext for war against Iraq An attack against Iran by the United States, or Israel, would be, in the absence of an imminent threat, an illegal, unilateral act of war. If undertaken by the US without a formal congressional declaration of war, such an attack would be unconstitutional. A war against Iran would serve only Israeli and Zionist interests. For everyone else, war against Iran would be a catastrophe.

Subversion of Science: How Psychology Lost Darwin
Glayde Whitney -- Institute for Historical Review

When real history is finally written, mainstream social sciences during most of the twentieth century will be exposed as consisting largely of ethnically motivated disinformation. Much has already been written about the subversion of American anthropology: the shift from legitimate science to ideological pap under the direction of the Jewish immigrant Franz Boas. Much less has been written about how psychology was transformed from a branch of natural science into a section of the Marxist-influenced social sciences. In this paper I will provide information on the subversion of psychology, pointing out the role of Boas and others in the subversion of psychology.

Zionist Groups Pressure California University Over Materials Critical of Israel
Committee to Defend Academic Freedom at UCSB

The ADL [Anti-Defamation League] and the Israel advocacy group "Stand With Us" are leading an aggressive, direct campaign to pressure UCSB [ University of California - Santa Barbara] administrators and faculty to investigate and discipline sociology professor William I. Robinson for having introduced materials critical of Israel in a course on global affairs.

Obama Steers Toward Endless War With Islam
Michael Scheuer

In just over 100 days, President Obama is on the verge of ensuring that militant Islams war on America will be waged for decades to come and its forces will never suffer manpower or money shortages. How did he accomplish so much in some little time? He simply behaved as all U.S. political leaders behave; that is, as an ignorant and arrogant interventionist Obama may use softer rhetoric, but he is loyal to the status quo interventionism Washington practices no matter which party holds power. The only redeeming aspect of Obamas 100-plus-day foreign-policy debacle is that his deceit is about played out. He will fool no Muslims.

Americas Kidnapping Capital: Phoenix
ABC News

In what officials caution is now a dangerous and even deadly crime wave, Phoenix, Arizona, has become the kidnapping capital of America, with more incidents than any other city in the world outside of Mexico City, and over 370 cases last year alone. But local authorities say Washington, DC, is too obsessed withal Qaeda terrorists to care about what is happening in their own backyard right now. "We're in the eye of the storm," Phoenix Police Chief Andy Anderson told ABC News of the violent crimes and ruthless tactics spurred by Mexico's drug cartels that have expanded business across the border.

U.S. Stirs a Hornet's Nest in Pakistan
Eric Margolis

If this continues, at some point patriotic Pakistani soldiers may rebel and shoot the corrupt generals and politicians on Washington's payroll. Equally ominous, a poor people's uprising spreading across Pakistan -- also mislabelled "Taliban" -- threatens a radical national rebellion reminiscent of India's Naxalite rebels. As in Iraq, profound ignorance and gung ho military arrogance drive U.S. Afghan policy. Obama's people have no understanding what they are getting into in "AfPak." I can tell them: An unholy mess we will long regret.

Italian Specialist Was First To Discover Einsteins Famous Equation
The Guardian (Britain) - 1999

The mathematical equation that ushered in the atomic age was discovered by an unknown Italian dilettante two years before Albert Einstein used it in developing the theory of relativity, it was claimed yesterday. Olinto De Pretto, an industrialist from Vicenza, published the equation E=mc2 in a scientific magazine, Atte, in 1903, said Umberto Bartocci, a mathematical historian. Einstein allegedly used De Pretto's insight in a major paper published in 1905, but De Pretto was never acclaimed, said Professor Bartocci of the University of Perugia.

Time to Get Out of Iraq
George S. McGovern

... Our policymakers contend that we must maintain U.S. troops in the Middle East to curb terrorism. I strongly believe that it is our military presence in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Middle East that is driving terrorism against the United States. No country that longs for national sovereignty wants a foreign army in its midst ... I urge President Obama to bring our troops home from the Middle East this year. A good target date for completing an orderly withdrawal from two ill-conceived and costly wars in Iraq and Afghanistan would be Thanksgiving 2009. For our sake and God's sake, let's get out of there and begin healing our own bankrupted land.

Rare Footage of Wartime British Camp of German Prisoners
BBC News

Rare film footage showing life in prisoner of war camp in Britain showing German detainees. There were over a thousand such prisoner of war camps in Britain during World War II, but few moving pictures remain. Runtime: 2:13 mins.

Facebook Refuses to Ban All `Denial Sites
The Australian Jewish News

Social networking site Facebook is facing mounting criticism in Australia and overseas after refusing to ban Holocaust-denial groups from its site. Despite international pressure calling for the popular website to block Holocaust-denial groups, Facebook said it does not take down groups that speak out against countries, political entities, or ideas. The popular site, however, has recently begun to remove Holocaust-denial content in countries such as Israel and Germany, where Holocaust denial is illegal. There are also reports that two other Holocaust-denial pages available in Australia were recently removed.

Golden State Bailout?
The New York Times

Is California too big to fail? Thats the question President Obama and Congress will soon face. While many states have severe fiscal problems, the depth and unusual persistence of Californias budget problems the state has run deficits for most of the decade has emptied Sacramentos till. On its current path, California will run short of the cash it needs to pay its bills in late July. Its highly unlikely that the states political leaders will be able to fix the problem themselves. Typically, states build up a cushion of tax revenues in the spring to pay expenses through the fall, when little cash comes in. But enormous drops in tax revenue have left California without the savings to meet even one months expenses.

No Hope or Change From Obama-Netanyahu Meeting
Ali Abunimah

Seldom has an encounter between an American and Israeli leader been as hyped as this week's meeting between US President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu But Obama offered little new, reaffirming well-worn US positions that view Palestinians, particularly Hamas, as the aggressors, and Israel as the innocent victim. While calling for Israel to halt settlement construction (as US presidents have done for decades), Obama offered no hint that he would back those words with action. Quite the contrary, the president said he would urge Arab leaders to normalize relations with Israel, rewarding it in advance of any renewed peace talks.

Israeli Leader Faces US Pressure On Settlements
Reuters

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu faced fresh pressure on Tuesday from the United States to freeze Jewish settlement activity that Palestinians see as an impediment to peace The United States and the European Union view all Jewish settlements in the West Bank as illegal under international law and obstacles to peace. Netanyahu, who heads a new right leaning Israeli coalition, has resisted calls to freeze the expansion of Jewish settlements.

There Will Be No Forgiveness: The Bykivnya Forests Mass Grave
Kyiv Post (Ukraine)

Thousands came to the Bykivnya mass grave northeast of Kyiv on May 17 to remember an estimated 100,000 victims of Stalins repressions. Late at night at the end of the 1930s, tram number 23 would rattle its way from Kyiv to Brovary with a grim cargo on board: dead bodies. Victims of the NKVD, the predecessor of the KGB, they were on the way to be tossed into mass graves at Bykivnya forest. On May 17, several thousand people gathered at the memorial center in the forest to mark Ukraines Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression and remember those destroyed by the Soviet machine.

Soviet 1940 Massacre of Poles Remains Potent Issue
Los Angeles Times

Efforts to gain justice for thousands of Polish captives executed apparently at Stalin's orders have been rebuffed by Russia's courts. The country's mood has swung away from probing the Soviet past. / The prisoners were mostly military officers, police, gendarmes and landlords, rounded up as a dangerous "bourgeois" elite when the Soviet Union invaded eastern Poland in the run-up to World War II. The following year, 1940, the Communist Party decided to eliminate them.

Russia Forms Commission to Counter `Falsified History
Reuters

Russia is launching an official drive to try to reverse what it sees as an anti-Russian view of 20th century history, but critics see it as an attempt to cover up the unpleasant reality of the communist past. Kremlin leaders have clashed with former Soviet vassals such as Ukraine and the Baltic states for confronting the Kremlin's interpretation of the 20th century when large swathes of Europe were occupied by Soviet troops for decades. "I order the creation of a presidential commission to counter attempts to harm Russian interests by falsifying history," President Dmitry Medvedev said in the decree published by the Kremlin on Tuesday.

Many of Israels Arabs Are `Holocaust Deniers
The Associated Press

More than 40 percent of Israel's Arab citizens say the Holocaust never happened, and barely one half think Israel has a right to exist, according to a survey published Monday. But the academic who directed it said the results were likely more statements of protest than belief. Sammy Smooha believes the numbers, which have shown a significant shift in the past few years, signal a rising frustration among minority Arabs in the Jewish state. He said the growing Holocaust denial is fueled by a belief that recognizing the World War II genocide, in which German Nazis and their collaborators murdered 6 million Jews, gives justification to Israeli policies.

What is Anti-Semitism?
Nicholas Goldberg -- Los Angeles Times

A UCSB professor's controversial e-mail underscores the need to define a sensitive subject. / But today, determining what is or is not anti-Semitism is generally a more nuanced business, at least in the West. Is it anti-Semitic or merely factual to say that Hollywood is controlled largely by Jews? (Remember: Most of the big studio chiefs are Jewish.) Or to note (as some critics of the Iraq war did) that many of the neoconservatives who helped devise the war's intellectual rationale were Jewish -- and possibly harbored a dual loyalty to Israel? Or to point to the existence of a powerful "Israel lobby" that wields substantial influence on Capitol Hill?

Saving Israel From Itself
John J. Mearsheimer -- The American Conservative

Since 1967, every American president has opposed settlement-building in the Occupied Territories. Yet no president has been able to put meaningful pressure on Israel to stop building settlements, much less dismantle them The main reason no president has been able to stop Israel from colonizing the Occupied Territories is the Israel lobby. It is an especially powerful interest group that has pushed the American government to establish a special relationship with Israel, which is, as Yitzhak Rabin once said, beyond compare in modern history. The special relationship means Washington gives Israel consistent, almost unconditional diplomatic backing and more foreign aid than any other country. In other words, Israel gets this aid even when it does things that the United States opposes, like building settlements.

Myths About Britains Finest Hour
Alexander Cockburn

Theres a myth now about the British hanging together in those dark days [of 1939-1941]. London can take it, Ed Murrow told America in his CBS broadcasts. Actually, morale was appalling. Most people correctly had little confidence in the competence of their government and thought Germany was going to win. In the Channel Islands, which the Nazis did take over, the people greeted them hospitably and turned in Jews with zest. The British Ministry of Information employed 10,000 people to read peoples mail surreptitiously, intercepting about 200,000 letters a week, and discovered that people were deeply pessimistic and thought Churchill was played out.

How Torture Helped the Allies Win WWII
Andrew Roberts

In the conflict generally regarded today as the most ethical in history, World War II, enhanced interrogation techniques were regularly used by the Allies, and senior politicians knew it perfectly well, just as we now discover that Nancy Pelosi did in the early stages of the war against terror Churchill always advocated the toughest option in any issue that came before his War Cabinet, be it over the bombing of German cities, allowing Mahatma Gandhi to die in his hunger strike, retaliating over the destruction of the Czech village of Lidice, and so on.

In Russia, Official Panel Set Up to `Protect History'
BBC News

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has ordered the creation of a commission to act against what the Kremlin terms falsifications of Russian history. The commission will attempt to defend the official version of Soviet history before, during and after World War II. Correspondents say Russia is immensely proud of its role in defeating Nazi Germany, and is angered by attempts to re-evaluate the period. The Kremlin is drawing up plans to make such moves a criminal offence. The laws could see people fined, or even imprisoned for up to five years, for deviating from the official history.

Iran Reformist Candidate Criticizes Ahmadinejad for Holocaust Remarks
VOA News and AP

One of two reformist candidates in Iran's upcoming election is lashing out at President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for his denial of the Holocaust. Former parliamentary speaker Mehdi Karroubi says Mr. Ahmadinejad's claim that the Holocaust never happened only serves to antagonize the West. He also says such comments help the rest of the world to stand by Israel. This is not the first time Mr. Karroubi has criticized the Iranian president for his stance on the Holocaust, during which six million Jews died at the hands of the Nazis. In April, he called Mr. Ahmadinejad's denial of the Holocaust "harmful" to Iran's interests.

How Tyranny Came to America
Joseph Sobran

One of the great goals of education is to initiate the young into the conversation of their ancestors; to enable them to understand the language of that conversation, in all its subtlety, and maybe even, in their maturity, to add to it some wisdom of their own. The modern American educational system no longer teaches us the political language of our ancestors. In fact our schooling helps widen the gulf of time between our ancestors and ourselves, because much of what we are taught in the name of civics, political science, or American history is really modern liberal propaganda.

The Paradox of Israel's Pursuit of Might
Max Hastings -- The Guardian (Britain)

... For more than 60 years, the Holocaust card has been played again and again. Today in Europe, there is not the slightest danger that the unspeakable fate of the Jews in the 1940s will be forgotten. But many people, especially the young, no longer perceive the crimes of Hitler, however monstrous, as providing remotely adequate justification for -- for instance -- Israeli military excesses in Gaza and the appropriation of scarce water resources at Palestinian expense ... Many Jews no longer believe that the Zionist concept of entitlement, based first upon Biblical history, and latterly upon the Holocaust, suffices to justify perpetuating historic injustice upon the Arabs of Palestine.

Elie Wiesel and the Catholics
David O'Connell -- Culture Wars (2004)

... Over the course of his career, Wiesel has told many tall tales about his alleged experiences during World War II. They can be called "true lies," since they are meant to edify and are told with supposedly good intentions, even though they are not true. In the following pages, I shall examine closely one of these "true lies." ... Elie Wiesel, so admired by many U. S. Catholic leaders, is in fact a con man who has enriched himself with his tall tales. Although courted by various misguided Church representatives, he is actually an outspoken enemy of traditional Catholicism, and should play no role whatsoever in Catholic life in this country.

The Impact of Christian Zionism on American Policy
William N. Dale -- American Diplomacy (2004)

... Even though their beliefs are certainly mistaken, Christian Zionists together with the Jewish lobbies, which have gained considerable influence in the U. S. Congress, have achieved great political strength in this country. Unlike Western Europe where such movements are less powerful, it is no longer possible to hold a major, wide-ranging public discussion on the merits of the American policy of support for Israel. A gulf is developing between the foreign policy perceptions of many Americans and those of our European allies, as well as of Islamic countries. Unless a counter force develops, Washington will not be able to support with consistency a policy in the Middle East involving compromise -- the only one that can bring peace.

Denial of the `Holodomor' in Ukraine
Wikipedia

Denial of the Holodomor is the assertion that the 1932-1933 "Holodomor" in Soviet Ukraine, recognized as a crime against humanity by the European parliament, did not occur ... A draft law "On Amendments to the Criminal and the Procedural Criminal Codes of Ukraine" was submitted to the President for consideration by the Ukrainian Parliament. The draft law envisages prosecution for public denial of the Holodomor Famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine as a fact of genocide of the Ukrainian people, and of the Holocaust as the fact of genocide of the Jewish people.

Amateur Video

Amateur color film footage of the summer 1936 visit to Germany by British former prime minister David Lloyd George. Shows his meeting with Hitler at Berchtesgaden, including the two statesmen sharing a meal. Impressed by what he saw, Lloyd George expressed praise for Hitler and Third Reich Germany. Runtime: 1:41 mins.

The New Generation Will End `Culture Wars, Researchers Say
The Chronicle of Higher Education

Everyone knows that young people came out to vote and overwhelmingly supported Barack Obama in last years presidential election. Now the Millennials, as the younger generation is known, will usher in a liberal era and end the culture wars, according to the Center for American Progress. In two reports released today one based on a new survey and the other drawing on much recent data the center, a liberal research organization, augurs a progressive future. The story throughout this survey is one of conservative decline and progressive ascendancy among young people, says the first report, The Political Ideology of the Millennial Generation."

Government Report Warns of Insolvency for Social Security, Medicare
The Washington Post

The financial health of the Social Security system has eroded more sharply in the past year than at any time since the mid-1990s, according to a government forecast that ratchets up pressure on the Obama administration and Congress to stabilize the retirement system that keeps many older Americans out of poverty. The report, issued yesterday by the trustees who monitor the government's two main forms of help for the elderly, shows that Medicare has become more fragile as well and is at greater risk than Social Security of imminent fiscal collapse. Starting eight years from now, the report says, the health insurance program will be unable to pay all its hospital bills.

The `Hate Crimes Bill: Why Do Jewish Organizations Support It?
Kevin MacDonald

The Hate Crimes Prevention Bill will be in the Senate Judiciary Committee this week. It recently passed the House, causing the Anti-Defamation League to rejoice. The ADL called the law "an essential and necessary step forward in the national effort to counter hate crimes" and urged passage by the Senate The ADL is on the verge of getting its Federal Hate Crimes bill signed into law. It is only a matter of time before it makes an all out assault on the First Amendment. And now the Obama Administration, and the entire intellectual left, will be wholly on board with the Jewish organizations long-held agenda.

`No Child Law Is Not Closing A Racial Gap
The New York Times

The achievement gap between white and minority students has not narrowed in recent years, despite the focus of the No Child Left Behind law on improving the scores of blacks and Hispanics, according to results of a federal test considered to be the nations best measure of long-term trends in math and reading proficiency. Between 2004 and last year, scores for young minority students increased, but so did those of white students, leaving the achievement gap stubbornly wide, despite President George W. Bushs frequent assertions that the No Child law was having a dramatic effect.

Facebook Boots Two `Holocaust Denial Groups
PC World

Facebook has removed two Holocaust denial groups claiming they violated Facebook's Terms of Service by promoting hate. The two groups in question, "Holocaust is a Holohoax" and "Based on the facts...there was no Holocaust," were removed from the site because messages from members posted on the group's Walls were found to be promoting hate speech. Despite Facebook's decision to eliminate two Holocaust denial groups, numerous others remain on Facebook.

Bill Would Turn Internet Bloggers Into Felons
Network World

A little-noticed bill re-introduced in Congress last month would make the use of popular electronic communications a felony if the intent is to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause substantial emotional distress to a person. Given the free-wheeling exchanges that characterize everything from SMS text messages and instant messaging, to blogs and Web site comments, the broadly written bill potentially could turn a lot of flamers and bloggers into felons. If convicted, they would face fines (no amounts given) and prison sentences up to two years.

Language of Jesus Keeps Memories Alive in Israel
Agence France Presse

Israel razed their ancestral village 56 years ago, but some Christians are determined to preserve its heritage by keeping alive the language that Jesus spoke. "Shlomo malfonito" -- "Hello teacher" -- intone some 20 pupils in the Arab-Israeli village of Jish, where half the population is Maronite, a people who for centuries have lived in the mountains of Lebanon and nearby. The children get free lessons in Aramaic, an ancient tongue spoken during the time of Jesus Christ and kept alive down the centuries by fellow Maronites.

Trivializing the Holocaust
Uri Avnery

Nor is Iran an anti-Semitic state. A Jewish community, whose members are refusing to emigrate, is living there comfortably enough. It enjoys religious freedom and has a representative in parliament. Even if we take such reports with a grain of salt, it is clear that the Jews in Iran are not being persecuted like the Jews in Nazi Germany. And, most important: Iran is not an aggressive country. It has not attacked its neighbors for centuries In brief, the comparison of Iran to Nazi Germany lacks a factual basis.

World's Happiest Places
Forbes

Where in the world do people feel most content with their lives? According to a new report released by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development, a Paris-based group of 30 countries with democratic governments that provides economic and social statistics and data, happiness levels are highest in northern European countries. Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands rated at the top of the list, ranking first, second and third, respectively. Outside Europe, New Zealand and Canada landed at Nos. 8 and 6, respectively. The United States did not crack the top ten. Switzerland placed seventh and Belgium placed tenth.

Russia Moves to Ban Criticism of World War II Victory
Time magazine

In the lead-up to the country's annual Victory Day celebrations, the Kremlin has made a move that it touts as yet another display of Russia's patriotism and pride: the government has announced that it is considering passing a law to criminalize statements and acts that deny the Soviets won World War II, or claim it used poor tactics in battle or did not liberate Eastern Europe.

The Weight of Tradition: Ancient Roots of Modern Conflict
Mark Weber -- Worldwatch (Audio MP3 file)

Israels inhumane treatment of non-Jews, as well as the often arrogant outlook of the organized Jewish community, reflect a centuries-old mindset that has roots in the Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament). As Weber explains in this hard-hitting broadcast, Judaism is not just another religion. Its character and core values are markedly unlike those of Christianity and the other great world religions. Jews are encouraged to regard themselves as separate from the rest of humanity, and as members of a community with interests distinct from those of everyone else.

Demjanjuk is `Fit to Stay in Jail, Say German Doctors
BBC News

Suspected Nazi war criminal John Demjanjuk is fit enough to be held in jail until such time as he goes on trial, German prison doctors say. Mr Demjanjuk, 89, was flown to Germany on Tuesday from the United States, where he waged a long battle against deportation, partly on health grounds. But a spokesman for Stadelheim jail in Munich said "doctors have determined he is fit to remain in custody". He faces charges of being an accessory to the deaths of 29,000 Jews. The arrest warrant was read to him hours after his arrival in Germany.

In Australia, Toben Sentenced to Three Months in Prison
Agence France Presse

A Holocaust revisionist was sentenced to three months in prison in Australia Wednesday for defying court orders to stop publishing anti-Semitic material on the Internet. Gerald Fredrick Toben, 65, who is wanted in Germany on charges of Holocaust denial, was jailed on 24 counts of criminal contempt of court, but the sentence was delayed for 14 days pending an appeal. "Evidence showed a continuing public defiance of the authority of the court," Federal Court Judge Bruce Lander was quoted as saying by the national AAP news agency.

A Stern Warning by Jordans King
The Times (Britain)

America is putting the final touches to a hugely ambitious peace plan for the Middle East, aimed at ending more than 60 years of conflict between Israel and the Arabs, according to Jordans King Abdullah, who is helping to bring the parties together. The Obama Administration is pushing for a comprehensive peace agreement that would include settling Israels conflict with the Palestinians and its territorial disputes with Syria and Lebanon, King Abdullah II told The Times. Failure to reach agreement at this critical juncture would draw the world into a new Middle East war next year.

Defaming Americas Past: Henry Ford and the Eugenics Movement
Kevin MacDonald

One result of the triumph of the culture of critique is that Americans must endure constant defamations against the pre-1965 culture of America. A good example is the defamation of Henry Ford an icon when I was growing up but now known mainly as an anti-Semite from Americas dark past The logic behind eugenics is impeccable. In its classical form, it proposes that qualities such as health, intelligence, and moral character are socially valuable. Eugenicists were correct that these qualities are strongly influenced by genetics, and they argued that society can promote these qualities by policies such as discouraging reproduction of people with negative traits and encouraging reproduction of people with positive traits.

America: A Superpower No More
Walter Rodgers -- Christian Science Monitor

These events are the latest warnings that our world is changing far more rapidly and profoundly than we or our politicians will admit. America's own triple-A rating, its superpower status, is being downgraded as rapidly as its economy Thus, another unpleasant truth: The Western democratic model has no appeal to much of the Arab world. Nor is democracy an attractive model for huge swaths of the rest of the world, such as Russia and China. It's time to lower our geopolitical sights and end America's unrealistic crusade. We shouldn't expect "them" to want to be like "us."

Straight Talk About Zionism
Mark Weber

A Zionist Jew, by definition, owes his primary loyalty to the Jewish community and to Israel. Zionism is not compatible with patriotism to any country or entity other than Israel and the world Jewish community Zionist Jews and their non-Jewish supporters embrace a blatant double standard. Jewish-Zionist organizations, along with their non-Jewish allies, support one social-political ideology for Israel and the world Jewish community, and a completely different one for the United States and other non-Jewish countries. They insist that ethnic nationalism is evil and bad for non-Jews, while at the same time they vigorously support ethnic nationalism -- that is, Zionism -- for Jews.

Historian Planted Fake Documents in British Archives
The Guardian (Britain)

They were the secret intelligence files that turned Second World War history on its head with "revelations" of British collaboration with the Nazis. British agents used the royal family to deceive the Nazis into expecting a pro-German putsch. The Duke of Windsor leaked secrets to help Hitler. And, most sensationally of all, SS chief Heinrich Himmler was murdered by secret agents on Winston Churchill's orders. The elaborate claims, contained in three separate books by the historian Martin Allen and based on previously unseen documents, read like the stuff of spy fiction. As it turned out, they were.

Do Jews Have a Jesus Problem?
Jay Michaelson -- Forward (New York)

The most notorious of all the Jesus texts [in the Talmud], however, is BT Sanhedrin 43a, which describes the halachic procedure of Jesus trial and execution Shockingly, however, the Talmud does not shirk responsibility for Jesus death. On the contrary, it says that he deserved it and that the Jews did it themselves. Jesus was, the text relates, a sorcerer, an idolater and a heretic who led Israel to idolatry. His conviction was entirely just, and his execution stoning and then hanging was carried out in strict accordance with rabbinic law The texts in Schafers book are still dangerous. They still might incite violence against Jews.

Criminalizing Criticism of Israel
Paul Craig Roberts

On October 16, 2004, President George W. Bush signed the Israel Lobbys bill, the Global Anti-Semitism Review Act. This legislation requires the US Department of State to monitor anti-semitism world wide. To monitor anti-semitism, it has to be defined. What is the definition? Basically, as defined by the Israel Lobby and Abe Foxman, it boils down to any criticism of Israel or Jews Most of Europe has already criminalized doubting the Holocaust. It is a crime even to confirm that it happened but to conclude that less than 6 million Jews were murdered. Why is the Holocaust a subject that is off limits to examination?

Iran Poses Threat Like Nazi Germany, Says Israels President
Haaretz (Israel)

The world has no choice but to compare the threat posed by Iran now to that of Nazi Germany before the Second World War, President Shimon Peres told U.S. President Barack Obama in Washington on Tuesday. "Iran is a threat not just to Israel, but to the whole world. As Jews, after being subjected to the Holocaust, we cannot close our eyes in light of the grave danger emerging from Iran," Peres said. "If Europe had dealt seriously with Hitler at that time, the terrible Holocaust and the loss of millions of people could have been avoided. We can't help but make the comparison."

Many Americans are Changing Their Religious Affiliation
Pew Research Center

Americans change religious affiliation early and often. In total, about half of American adults have changed religious affiliation at least once during their lives. Most people who change their religion leave their childhood faith before age 24, and many of those who change religion do so more than once. These are among the key findings of a new survey conducted by the Pew Research Center's Forum on Religion & Public Life. The survey documents the fluidity of religious affiliation in the U.S. and describes in detail the patterns and reasons for change.

Obama's 100 Days: The Mad Men Did Well
John Pilger

In his first 100 days, Obama has excused torture, opposed habeas corpus and demanded more secret government. He has kept Bushs gulag intact and at least 17,000 prisoners beyond the reach of justice Perhaps the biggest lie the equivalent of smoking is good for you is Obamas announcement that the US is leaving Iraq, the country it has reduced to a river of blood. According to unabashed US army planners, as many as 70,000 troops will remain for the next 15 to 20 years.

My Patient, Hitler: A Memoir of Hitlers Jewish Physician
Dr. Eduard Bloch

What kind of boy was Adolf Hitler? Many biographers have put him down as harsh-voiced, defiant, untidy; as a young ruffian who personified all that is unattractive. This simply is not true. As a youth he was quiet, well-mannered and neatly dressed In the practice of my profession it is natural that I should have witnessed many scenes such as this one, yet none of them left me with quite the same impression. In all my career I have never seen anyone so prostrate with grief as Adolf Hitler.

Yoav Shamirs New Film, `Defamation
Screen Daily

Of the proponents of what [Defamation director] Shamir presents as a phobia about anti-Jewish feeling worldwide, Abe Foxman occupies centre stage. The cog behind the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), a Manhattan-based organisation whose sole purpose is to fight and prevent anti-semitism, and a concentration-camp survivor, Foxman, who opened up to Shamir and even took him along to meetings abroad with world leaders, becomes the films comic relief. A smug, overbearing man, Foxman is irrationally fearful of what he considers hateful acts against Jews

An Introduction to Revisionism: The Story of American Revisionism
Jeff Riggenbach

[Harry Elmer] Barnes wanted to steer American government away from what he regarded as wasteful and destructive policies. [James J.] Martin, if he wanted anything other than just to get the record straight, wanted to steer American society away from government. Barnes sought to publicize the truth about the world wars in order to convince his fellow Americans that their government should use the resources it was wasting on unnecessary and destructive foreign conflicts to make improvements at home, improvements like ending poverty and stamping out crime.

Famed Nefertiti Bust is a Fake, Says Specialist
Agence France Presse

The bust of Queen Nefertiti housed in a Berlin museum and believed to be 3,400 years old in fact is a copy dating from 1912 that was made to test pigments used by the ancient Egyptians, according to Swiss art historian Henri Stierlin. Stierlin, author of a dozen works on Egypt, the Middle East and ancient Islam, says in a just-released book that the bust currently in Berlin's Altes Museum was made at the order of German archaeologist Ludwig Borchardt by an artist named Gerardt Marks. "It seems increasingly improbable that the bust is an original," Stierlin told AFP.

Some Protest Wagners `Ring Performance in Los Angeles
Forward (New York)

When the Los Angeles Opera launches its most ambitious project to date a ten-week citywide festival celebrating Richard Wagners The Ring, which will culminate in a massive production of the epic opera not everyone will be celebrating. Although Wagners music is regularly performed in America without much ado, the influential Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center is objecting to the notion of a large-scale festival honoring the work of the renowned composer, a known antisemite whose works were infamously embraced by Hitler.

An Unknown Holocaust: Mass Killing, `Ethnic Cleansing and Brutal Mistreatment of Germans by the Victorious Allies
Mark Weber -- Worldwatch (Audio MP3 file)

Weber reviews the little-known story of misery and death imposed by the victors on defeated Germany in the aftermath of World War II. The Allied powers imposed an unknown holocaust of destruction, looting, starvation, rape, ethnic cleansing, and mass killing. More than 14 million Germans were expelled or forced to flee from eastern and central Europe. Some three million Germans died needlessly -- about two million civilians, mostly women, children and elderly, and one million prisoners of war. Weber also highlights the Allied double standard in putting German leaders to death for policies that the Allies themselves were carrying out, sometimes on a far greater scale.

US Pro-Israeli Group Attempts to Stop White House Shift on Mid-East Policy
The Guardian (Britain)

US congressional leaders and the most powerful pro-Israel lobby group in the US are attempting to forestall a significant shift in the White House's Middle East policy. The move comes amid growing signs that the US president, Barack Obama, intends to press for urgent efforts to be made towards the creation of a Palestinian state. The Israeli prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, is visiting Washington later this month amid growing expectations that Obama is preparing to take a tougher line over Israel's reluctance to actively seek a two-state solution to its conflict with the Palestinians.

Obama and `Two States: Continuity From the Bush Era
Ellen Cantarow

A false claim is wafting through the press: Obama is hanging tough with Benjamin Netanyahu, he's going to "twist Israel's arm" and at long last force the Jewish state into a two-state agreement, settling the Israel-Palestine question for good. There's even talk that Obama backs the Arab League's 2002 peace initiative, complete with its main demand: Israel's withdrawal to its 1967 borders. There's no proof for any of this. Obama has said nothing about when, where, and with what boundaries a Palestinian state might be established. Neither did George Bush. The slide from one regime to the next has been seamless on the score of Israel and Palestine as on much else.

Michael Savage to Sue Britain for `Hate List Placement
BBC News

A US radio talk show host says he will sue the British government for defamation after being placed on a list of people banned from entering the UK. Conservative political commentator Michael Savage, real name Michael Alan Weiner, is one of 22 people barred for fostering extremism or hate. He has described the Islamic holy book the Koran as "a book of hate" and questioned cases of autism. Mr Weiner said he opposed violence and objected to being linked to murderers. He told his radio audience that he was intending to sue British Home Secretary Jacqui Smith, who he described as the "lunatic ... Home Secretary of England".

US Government Drops Charges Against Pro-Israel Lobbyists
The Associated Press

Federal prosecutors moved Friday to dismiss espionage-related charges against two former pro-Israel lobbyists accused of disclosing classified U.S. defense information, ending a tortuous inside-the-Beltway legal battle rife with national security intrigue. Critics of the prosecution of Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee accused the federal government of trying to criminalize the sort of back-channel discussions between government officials, lobbyists and reporters that are commonplace in the nation's capital. AIPAC is an influential pro-Israel lobbying group.

California Professor Under Fire for Holocaust Comparisons With Gaza
Los Angeles Times

The UC Santa Barbara sociologist, who is Jewish, sent images from the Holocaust and from Israel's Gaza offensive to students in his class. He has drawn denunciation and support. / Controversy has erupted at UC [University of California] Santa Barbara over a professor's decision to send his students an e-mail in which he compared graphic images of Jews in the Holocaust to pictures of Palestinians caught up in Israel's recent Gaza offensive. The e-mail by tenured sociology professor William I. Robinson has triggered a campus investigation and drawn accusations of anti-Semitism from two national Jewish groups, even as many students and faculty members have voiced support for him.

Europe is Dying
Video

Across the continent, the birthrate of native Europeans has fallen to below the replacement level, making cultural decline inevitable. Immigration is largely from Muslim countries. Europe is on the path to extinction, and will cease to exist. In Belgium and the Netherlands, 50 percent of all newborns are Muslim. In 15 years, half the population of the Netherlands will be Muslim. Runtime: 7:31 mins.

Resist or Become Serfs
Chris Hedges

America is devolving into a third-world nation. And if we do not immediately halt our elites rapacious looting of the public treasury we will be left with trillions in debts, which can never be repaid, and widespread human misery which we will be helpless to ameliorate. Our anemic democracy will be replaced with a robust national police state. The elite will withdraw into heavily guarded gated communities where they will have access to security, goods and services that cannot be afforded by the rest of us. Tens of millions of people, brutally controlled, will live in perpetual poverty.

The Warsaw Ghetto Boy
Mark Weber

It is probably the single most widely recognized and memorable Holocaust image of all: a frightened and apparently doomed young boy, his arms upraised, standing with other Warsaw ghetto Jews under the watch of an armed German soldier Contrary to legend, though, the ghetto boy was not killed. He survived wartime internment in Warsaw and in a German concentration camp. Several decades after it was taken, a New York physician, Tsvi C. Nussbaum, revealed that he was the lad in the famous photograph. I remember there was a soldier in front of me, and he ordered me to raise my hands, Nussbaum later recalled.

A Ghetto Fighter Recalls Her Capture
Institute for Historical Review

Young women fighters rounded up during the 1943 German action against the Warsaw ghetto are shown in this widely-reproduced photograph. Like the famous ghetto boy photo, this was included in the 1943 Stroop report. The original caption read: Women of the He-halutz movement, captured with weapons. The young woman at the right is Malka Zdorjewicz. Years later, she recalled the circumstance behind the taking of this photograph.

How Many Jews Would There Be If Not For The Holocaust?
Haaretz (Israel)

If not for the Holocaust, there would be as many as 32 million Jews worldwide, instead of the current 13 million, demographer Professor Sergio Della Pergola has written in a soon-to-be published article. Della Pergola, who holds the Shlomo Argov chair in Israel-Diaspora relations and is the director of the Division of Jewish Demography and Statistics at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, attempts to estimate the demographic damage to Jews of the Holocaust. The Holocaust 'struck a mortal blow particularly at the Jews of Eastern Europe because of their especially young age structure,' and particularly the number of children. This led to significant long-term demographic damage.

In Italy, `Swastika Priests
Austrian Times

A priest has shocked parishioners by welcoming them to church wearing a swastika armband. / In northern Italy where former dictator Benito Mussolini comes from, the far right Italian Lega Nord (Northern League) have their political stronghold - and there have been several instances of priests with far right views that have embarrassed the Catholic Church. Last month a right wing Italian priest who is a member of Richard Williamson's Pius fraternity was caught giving the Hitler salute at a neo-fascist rally - but claimed he was just trying to bless his flock.

Europe Needs No Part in Doomed Afghan War
William Pfaff

If Barack Obama had wanted to give the NATO allies prudent advice about how to avoid terrorist attacks, he should have told them to have nothing to do with the American war on terror, even if it is now under Obama management and renamed "overseas contingency operations." The Europeans dont have a dog in the fight against the Taliban Bad enough that the United States is humiliated once again in a useless war, like Vietnam and Iraq, contributing to the existing hatred of non-Westerners toward Washington. Europe should leave bad enough alone in this situation, and hope that President Obama is too intelligent not to work his way out of this war.

Harman Wiretap Highlights Suspicions of Pro-Israel Jews Loyalties
Forward (New York)

Leaks of wiretap transcripts involving a member of Congress and a suspected Israeli agent have shone a rare light on the scope of suspicion the American intelligence establishment harbors toward Israel and its supporters For close observers of the national security establishment, the real news was the extent of its suspicions of American Jewish supporters of Israel up to and including its willingness to wiretap a member of Congress. Its rooted deep in the system, an official with an American Jewish organization said, and it comes from the bottom up.
