RALLY FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE, JULY 29

The Simon Wiesenthal Center, based in Los Angeles, is one of the world’s most important Jewish organizations. It reports an annual income of $27 million, including $10 million in taxpayer funds. Over the years it has even received millions of dollars from California state funds that had been set aside for schools.

Although it claims to promote “tolerance,” its real agenda is a narrowly Jewish-Zionist one. The Wiesenthal Center is a staunch supporter of Israel, and fervently supports its policies of oppression, occupation, and institutionalized discrimination against non-Jews.  

We’ll be rallying at the Simon Wiesenthal Center on July 29, 2005, to highlight its record of deceit and lies in support of war, Zionist oppression and Jewish supremacism, and to protest the give-away of millions of dollars in public funds to this bastion of Jewish-Zionist power.

British Advisers Foresaw Risks, Problems with Iraq War, Memos Show

In public, British officials were declaring their solidarity with the Bush administration's calls for elimination of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction. But Straw's memo and seven other secret documents disclosed in recent months by British journalist Michael Smith together reveal a much different picture. Behind the scenes, British officials believed the U.S. administration was already committed to a war that they feared was ill-conceived and illegal and could lead to disaster. The documents indicate that the officials foresaw a host of problems that later would haunt both governments -- including thin intelligence about the nature of the Iraqi threat, weak public support for war and a lack of planning for the aftermath of military action.

Czechs Rethinking Postwar Forcible Expulsion of Germans

There are several other signs that show Czechs are beginning to shake off the communists' anti-German stance toward history. The mayor of Ústí nad Labem, Petr Gandalovič, sponsored a "Tolerance Instead of Intolerance" conference last year on Czech-German relations with a discussion on the expulsions by Czech and German historians and politicians. At the conference he unveiled an ambitious plan to open a major museum in Ústí devoted to the contributions of Germans in Bohemia over the centuries. The museum, which would be the only one of its kind in the Czech Republic, would have a unique role in a city that was 80 percent German before 1945 and was the site of a major anti-German massacre after the war.

The AD43 Roman invasion is one of the best-known events in British history. More than 40,000 Roman soldiers are believed to have landed in Richborough, Kent, before carving their way through the English countryside. The evidence unearthed in Sussex overturns this theory. Archaeologists now believe that the Romans arrived up to 50 years earlier in Chichester. They were welcomed as liberators, overthrowing a series of tyrannical tribal kings who had been terrorising clans across southern England.

What Is Bush's Agenda in Iraq?

In print and on TV, Bush's neocons have made clear their desire to see the U.S. at war with the entire Muslim world: Today Iraq, tomorrow the Middle East. Chinese Bid to Take US Corporation

One of China's largest state-controlled oil companies made a $18.5 billion unsolicited bid Thursday for Unocal, signaling the first big takeover battle by a Chinese company for an American corporation. The bold bid, by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), may be a watershed in Chinese corporate behavior, and it demonstrates the increasing influence on Asia of Wall Street's bare-knuckled takeover tactics. The offer is also the latest symbol of China's growing economic power and of the soaring ambitions of its corporate giants, particularly when it comes to the energy resources it needs desperately to continue feeding its rapid growth.

Confronting Israeli Myth-Making

Propagandists on behalf of Israel have held a corner on public discourse about the Palestinian-Israeli conflict for the nearly six decades of Israel’s existence, but these purveyors of the Israeli line have become increasingly deceptive and malign -- and increasingly effective – with time. The propaganda machine serving Israel disseminates a steady stream of talking points and argumentation that today effectively controls all public discourse, so that in media arenas large and small throughout the country there are always grassroots propagandists available to put out a uniformly favorable twist on Israel’s actions and always to paint the Palestinians in black colors.

The US War With Iran Has Already Begun

As with Iraq, the president has paved the way for the conditioning of the American public and an all-too-compliant media to accept at face value the merits of a regime change policy regarding Iran, linking the regime of the Mullah's to an "axis of evil" (together with the newly "liberated" Iraq and North Korea), and speaking of the absolute requirement for the spread of "democracy" to the Iranian people. "Liberation" and the spread of "democracy" have become none-too-subtle code words within the neo-conservative cabal that formulates and executes American foreign policy today for militarism and war. By the intensity of the "liberation/democracy" rhetoric alone, Americans should be put on notice that Iran is well-fixed in the cross-hairs as the next target for the illegal policy of regime change being implemented by the Bush administration.

The Complicit US Media

...the crude pattern that coverage in the American press has followed on the Downing Street memo, then memos. As of late last week, four of our five major papers (the Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, the New York Times, and USA Today) hadn't even commented on them in their editorial pages. In my hometown paper, the New York Times, complete lack of interest was followed last Monday by a page 11 David Sanger piece (Prewar British Memo Says War Decision Wasn't Made) that focused on the second of the Downing Street memos, a briefing paper for Tony Blair's "inner circle," and began: "A memorandum written by Prime Minister Tony Blair's cabinet office in late July 2002 explicitly states that the Bush administration had made ‘no political decisions' to invade Iraq, but that American military planning for the possibility was advanced."

France Orders Closure of US-Based Website

French ISPs have been ordered to stop clients from accessing AARGH, a website hosted in the US which France’s J'accuse says is disseminating revisionist anti-Jewish propaganda, according to Yahoo! Actualités. The judgement, from a Paris court, came on June 13 after an attempt in April by the J'accuse to have the US sites hosting AAARGH block access to French surfers brought only partial results. Two of the three hosts, OLM and Globat had agreed to the demands of the French court, but a third, ThePlanet.com, was still providing access as of May 30, the cut off date for the first injunction rendered in April. The French court had also asked the American hosts to provide detailed information about the people behind AARGH.

US Naval Academy Next Target for ADL

After receiving assurances last week from the superintendent of the Air Force Academy that religious intolerance on campus will end, the Anti-Defamation League is now setting its sights on the mandatory mealtime prayer recited at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. Abraham Foxman, the ADL’s national director, said he plans to go to Washington next week to meet with members of the armed forces committees of the House and Senate to discuss religious coercion at both the Air Force and Naval academies.

The Latest Downing Street Memos

Ricketts was essentially saying that Bush was not fully attached to reality and that his "own machine" was not providing him all the necessary information. What a harsh indictment of a partner-in-war. Ricketts feared that Bush consequently would make rotten decisions about the war in Iraq. But, Ricketts noted, Blair could be a positive influence by spelling out "the realities" for Bush. Blair, though, could only do that if he was with the program. This is a chilling passage. It illuminates the arrogance of the Blairites. Because they knew better than the not-fully-informed president, they assumed they could nudge Bush in the appropriate direction. But they were signing up for a war led by a man whom they believed was not in sync with reality and who could not be trusted to wage war properly on his own.

USS Liberty Vets File War Crimes Complaint Against Israel

Surviving crew members of the USS Liberty are presenting a formal report on war crimes committed against US military personnel in Israel ’s savage 1967 attack against the American navy ship. Of the crew of 294 officers and men, 34 were killed and 173 were wounded in action. A press conference to take place in Washington , DC , is planned for Friday, June 10, at which the report is being presented to the media.
