Israel and Palestine, Choosing Sides
Alison Weir
Founder and Executive Director of
If Americans Knew

The most monumental cover-up in media history may be the one I’m about to describe. In my entire experience with American journalism, I have never found anything as extreme, sustained, and omnipresent.

Three and a half years ago, when the current Palestinian uprising began, I started to look into Israel and Palestine. I had never paid much attention to this issue before and so – unlike many people – I knew I was completely uninformed about it. I had no idea that I was pulling a loose piece of thread that would steadily unravel, until nothing would ever be quite as it had been before.

Go to the IHR's audio archive, where you can listen to Chuck Carlson, director of the We Hold These Truths center report on his visit to the Zionist-occupied Gaza region of Palestine.

UK Archives Reveal Palestine Plan
Secret wartime discussions about Palestine between Winston Churchill and the future Israeli President Chaim Weizmann led to an icy exchange with Anthony Eden, the British foreign secretary, according to official papers just released in London.

A top-secret Colonial Office file from 1943 shows that Mr Churchill favoured a plan to try to bribe King Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, with £20m and the leadership of a new Arab confederation, in exchange for the Saudi monarch's help in handing over Palestine to the Jews.

As Mr Eden pointed out to his boss, such a move would be the opposite of British official policy.

Overcoming Israel's Separation Anxiety
In the absence of a government on the Palestinian side that is able and willing to negotiate peace, the only way to save Israel from destruction is to build a wall and get out of the territories. History shows that walls work. If not perfectly and forever, then for a considerable period of time and to a very large extent; if not because they are impossible to undermine or surmount, then because of the psychological effect they have on those on both sides of them. The Roman Limes, or frontier; the Great Wall of China; and, in our own day, the barriers that divide Korea and Cyprus are all proof of that fact. Even the Berlin Wall gave that city, which used to be the most dangerous flash point on earth, three decades of almost perfect peace.

Nazi Holiday Camp Sold at Auction
The concrete beachfront resort in the town of Prora, on the island of Ruegen in the Baltic Sea, was commissioned by Adolf Hitler in the 1930s.

It was meant to be used by soldiers and workers, but the outbreak of World War II meant it never opened as a hotel.

Wal-Mart Ends Anti-Semitic Book Sale
Bowing to a barrage of complaints from Jewish groups, retail leader Wal-Mart Inc. has stopped selling The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, an infamous anti-Semitic tract long exposed as fake.

Walmart.com to Remove The Protocols from Online Catalog at Behest of Abe Foxman
"...Since we [The ADL] are not in the business of banning books, no matter how reprehensible they may be, we have sought and achieved various solutions in the past few years that have enabled online booksellers to inform book buyers in an upfront manner about the history of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion and its use to promote conspiracy theories about Jews plotting to control the world."

Never Forget: ADL Boss Makes List of '50 Most Loathsome New Yorkers' (#37)

[A quick search on Walmart's site for the words Protocols and Zion results in a display of nine titles, two of which are The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion, and no less than five different titles that are refutations of the original.]

Hitler's Secret Indian Army
Left-wing Indian revolutionary leader Subhas Chandra Bose, who had been arrested 11 times by the British in India, had fled the Raj with one mission in mind. That was to seek Hitler's help in pushing the British out of India.

Six months later, with the help of the German foreign ministry, he had set up what he called "The Free India Centre", from where he published leaflets, wrote speeches and organised broadcasts in support of his cause.

By the end of 1941, Hitler's regime officially recognised his provisional "Free India Government" in exile, and even agreed to help Chandra Bose raise an army to fight for his cause. It was to be called "The Free India Legion".

Subhas Chandra Bose, The Indian National Army, and The War of India's Liberation
From the IHR's Journal of Historical Review

Bose was welcome in Germany, although the news of his arrival there was kept a secret for some time for political reasons. The German Foreign Office, which was assigned the primary responsibility of dealing with Bose and taking care of him, had been well informed of the background and political status of the Indian leader through its pre-war Consulate-General at Calcutta and also by its representative in Kabul. Bose himself, naturally some what impatient for getting into action soon after his arrival in Berlin, submitted a memorandum to the German government on 9 April 1941 which outlined a plan for co-operation between the Axis powers and India.

Injury May Have Led to Red Baron's Death
History books say that The Red Baron, the legendary World War I German flying ace, was shot out of the sky and died in April 1918. But new research suggests that his death spiral may have begun nine months earlier.

A University of Missouri at Columbia researcher and his Ohio collaborator argue a severe injury to Manfred von Richthofen's brain during an earlier aerial confrontation figured in his death.

The Terror that is Baghdad
"...The brutality of this struggle, which seems likely to intensify as the date approaches for the first elections in January, completely dominates working life. Correspondents no longer bother writing about the failure of reconstruction, electricity cuts or even attacks on American troops. There is no reconstruction to speak of and the chronic crime, grinding traffic and other grim aspects of life go largely unnoticed."

HellSalon's war correspondent on the Iraq inferno
Three years after the attacks on the World Trade Center, attacks in which they played no part, the people of Iraq have been liberated from one tyranny only to be remanded to another: continuous urban warfare, religious extremism and a contagion of fear. The celebrated hand of the free market in Iraq has brought not only cellphones and satellite TV, it has also brought down prices for automatic weapons, making them affordable to the average Iraqi. The last time I checked, a rocket-propelled grenade launcher cost about $250.

Blame It on Neo
Just because we call ourselves "neocons," it doesn't mean you can. Of course, if you're right-leaning and don't intend the word disparagingly, you get a pass. Just know that unless you're aware that "neoconservative" also includes last names like Bennett, Kirkpatrick, Sowell, Kemp and Ashcroft, when you refer to someone as a neocon, you're saying "Jew."
U.S. to Sell Israel 5,000 Smart Bombs
The United States will sell Israel 5,000 smart bombs for $319 million, according to a report made to Congress a few weeks ago.

The funding will come from the U.S. military aid to Israel, and the bombs range from airborne versions, guidance units, training bombs and detonators. The bombs are guided by satellite, in a system already in the Israel Defense Forces arsenal. The guidance unit receives a signal from a satellite, correcting the bomb's course to the target.

The Pentagon told Congress that the bombs are meant to maintain Israel's qualitative advantage, and advance U.S. strategic and tactical interests.

Among the bombs the air force will get are 500 one-ton bunker busters that can penetrate two-meter-thick cement walls; 2,500 regular one-ton bombs; 1,000 half-ton bombs; and 500 quarter-ton bombs.

Population and the One-State Solution
Israel's Demographics

Despite non-stop violence against them by Israel's military, Palestinians found some hope this week when the country's official census study showed Palestinians growing twice as fast as Jews.

Published by Israel's leading English language newspaper, Haaretz, the data shows that Israel's population of 6.8 million consists of 5.5 million Jews and 1.3 million Arabs.

The fact is the Arab-Israeli conflict has always been about population and land. Israel isn't just a state, it is a Jewish State. The conflict today isn't about whether Israel should exist or not, but whether Israel should be allowed to keep the lands it occupied in 1967.

Sympathetic Film Portrayal of Hitler Leaves Germans Baffled
Germans yesterday emerged stunned and confused from the premiere of the controversial film The Downfall which depicts in graphic detail the last days of Adolf Hitler. The Nazi leader is shown as a tired, sometimes sympathetic man and as a good considerate boss with a tendency to shout too loud. It is a portrait that has prompted an excited debate in Germany about whether it is legitimate to show Hitler as a human being rather than as a monster.
French Try to Reverse Rising Tide of Anti-Semitism
In an effort to stem a rising tide of anti-Semitism in public schools, the French government is distributing excerpts of Shoah, a haunting documentary on the Holocaust to high school classes. But experts are uncertain whether the new effort to instill tolerance among French students will be successful.

The French government is pushing for all schools to air the documentary, which recounts stark accounts of Holocaust survivors.

CSIS Intercepted Zundel's Mail, Ex-Agent Says
Despite bomb risk, spy agency put packets on regular flights to Ottawa, hearing told

Canadian Security Intelligence Service officials intercepted Ernst Zundel's mail and used commercial flights to send packages they were worried could have contained bombs to Ottawa for analysis, a former CSIS agent testified yesterday.

In compelled testimony at a deportation hearing for the '"Holocaust denier," ex-agent John Farrell said he warned his superiors several times that using commercial flights to send the packages was highly risky.

...Mr. Farrell conceded that in his view, CSIS's motto ought to be: "Lie, deny, and then act surprised."

Mr. Zundel did receive a package containing a pipe bomb during the period in which CSIS was monitoring his mail. He took it to police.

David Irving, Mark Weber to Address California Meeting
At a special October 2 meeting in southern California, British historian David Irving and IHR Director Mark Weber will provide riveting, undeceived perspective on the past and present. The meeting is being organized by the Institute for Historical Review in conjunction with Focal Point Publications.

Capacity Crowd for David Irving at University of Colorado
"...by the time the talk is due to start at seven the auditorium is packed, with every seat taken and people young and old standing along the side walls too. Others are being turned away at the doors -- they wait outside in the hope that a seat becomes vacant. Spectacular atmosphere, and in my estimate the speech I then deliver is the best for ten years."

Peaceful Zundel Protests Physically Attacked by Jewish-Linked Group
"...After the rally, we left and went to a local restaurant. This is where things got crazy. About 20 or so ARA people showed up at the restaurant, and ran into the bar area, where I was sitting with about 8 people talking, enjoying a beer and watching NFL football..."
AIPAC's Power, or America's Cowardice?
by Charley Reese

I have long since given up the hope that Americans would wake up and resent the manipulation of their government by a foreign country. The Israeli lobby has been so successful in labeling any criticism of Israel, no matter how justified, as anti-Semitic that most Americans prefer to stick their heads in the sand. For sure, American politicians and much of the media seem to be terrified by the Israeli lobby, which says more about their cowardice than it does about the power of the lobby itself.

White House Draws Fire From Congress, Officials Over Leak of FBI Probe
The wave of allegations and leaks has Jewish activists worried. "The longer this story is out there without concrete facts or some conclusion, the more we will bleed," one Jewish organizational official said.

One concern voiced by Jewish activists was that Aipac's enemies would use this opportunity to discredit the Jewish community. The first such salvo came from conservative pundit and former presidential hopeful Pat Buchanan last Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Alluding to Jonathan Pollard, the American Jewish Navy analyst now serving a life sentence for spying for Israel, Buchanan said: "We also need to investigate whether there is a nest of Pollardites in the Pentagon who have been transmitting American secrets through Aipac, the Israeli lobby, over to Reno Road, the Israeli embassy, to be transferred to Mr. Sharon." If the allegations proved true, he said, "we are getting dangerously close to the T-word," an apparent reference to treason.

Neocons Blast Bush's Inaction On 'Spy' Affair
In an indication of their growing estrangement with the Bush administration, neoconservatives are slamming the White House for failing to stop what they describe as an antisemitic campaign to marginalize them being conducted by the CIA and the State Department.

German Government Raids Dissident, Seizes Home
by Germar Rudolph

Rudi Großkopf is accused of "incitement to hatred" and "stirring up the people" for having assisted me in running this bank account, which enabled me to accept electronic transfers from my German customers buying historical books and magazines considered illegal in Germany (see www.vho.org/store/ for my book offers).

Since the German courts consider me, the perpetrator of these heinous crimes of spreading dissenting historical thoughts, unreachable, they simply seize all the property of my friend Rudi in order to get the quarter million dollars they claim I owe them. I still do not know why I owe so much money, but a German law allows the confiscation of all funds, assets and property gained by criminal activity. I therefore assume that this may be the way they came up with the figure of 213,927.63 Euros (even though I certainly did not make so much profit since I started my business back in 1996).

Ernst Zundel No Threat to Security, Says Doug Christie
The Government's case lies in tatters on the courtroom floor like so much soggy confetti, after testimony by Doug Christie, Ernst Zundel's former lawyer.

The Crown has painted a picture of Mr.  Zundel as a dangerous "guru" to terrorists and White supremacists and as a man with a hidden agenda. Doug Christie's clear and, at times tired testimony, from having known Mr. Zundel for over 18 years painted a different picture. His Ernst Zundel is a man of peace, unprovocable to violence or anger. His core supporters, far from being revolutionary bomb throwers, are mostly mild, peaceful older Germans or Anglos motivated by a quaint attachment to freedom of speech.

Israeli Rabbis: Don't Spare Civilians
A group of prominent Jewish rabbis have asked the Israeli army not to flinch from killing Palestinian civilians in the context of the ongoing military campaign against armed groups resisting the occupation.

In a letter to the Israeli defence minister, Shaul Mofaz, published on Tuesday, the rabbis said killing enemy civilians is "normal" during the time of war and that the Israeli occupation army should never hesitate to kill non-Jewish civilians in order to save Jewish lives.

Neoconservatism and Espionage
AIPAC Spy Scandal: Crimes of the 'Clean Break' Gang
by Justin Raimondo

These are bad times for Israeli spy operations. It wasn't enough that the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) was outed, last week, as a major supplier of U.S. secrets to Tel Aviv: on Monday, Israel's spy satellite – meant to keep an eye on Iran's nuclear ambitions – went kaput on lift-off. Measured in time, money, and diplomatic blowback, the loss of the satellite is a hard blow to the Jewish state – but the AIPAC affair could deliver a knockout punch to one of Washington's most powerful, and feared, lobbying groups. Not only that, it could also destroy the neoconservative wing of the Republican foreign policy establishment by demonstrating, in a court of law, the key link between neoconservatism and espionage.

Pacino's 'Merchant' Screens in Venice
Al Pacino growls, grimaces and demands a "pound of flesh" as Jewish moneylender Shylock in a new version of Shakespeare's "The Merchant of Venice." But the actor argued Saturday that the film successfully addresses long-standing controversy over the work's anti-Semitism.

Director Michael Radford — speaking to reporters after the film's screening at the Venice Film Festival — added that his picture shouldn't be seen as a tale just about tensions between Christians and Jews, but as a comment on the very modern problem of two cultures at odds.

Radford's production begins with written titles that give context on persecution of the Jews in 16th-century Venice. It closes with a shot of the broken, tormented Shylock being locked in the ghetto that restricted Jews to a tiny quarter of the city.

What is Said and What is Hinted at
The most current context [of the Pentagon spy case] relates to the dispute over the war in Iraq. Israel's name was insinuated into this dispute even before the war began, and has repeatedly been mentioned as the extent of the American entanglement has become apparent. The claim is that Israel's neo-conservative friends, some of whom hold key positions in the Bush administration while others exert influence from without, dragged the United States into a war intended to serve Israel's interests.

To this claim is now added a new dimension: It is becoming increasingly evident that the attempt to block Iran's development of nuclear weapons by means of dialogue is doomed to failure. This awareness now raises some difficult questions: Can the United States, Europe, Israel and other countries live with a nuclear Iran? If not, would the United States be willing to use the military option? Or will Israel perhaps find itself forced to do so?
The Secret Family of Pancho Villa
Book purports that Pancho Villa was at least partly Jewish

Villa's father was Luis Férman Gurrola, the son of a Jewish immigrant from Liechtenstein. "Funny, he doesn't look Jewish," - you are likely to say. But, you should see the picture of Villa's half-brother, who was reported by his children to have been a crypto-Jew - practicing Jewish rituals secretly in the attic.

Dual Loyalties: The Bush Neocons and Israel
The suggestion that the war with Iraq is being planned at Israel's behest, or at the instigation of policymakers whose main motivation is trying to create a secure environment for Israel, is strong. Many Israeli analysts believe this. The Israeli commentator Akiva Eldar recently observed frankly in a Ha'aretz column that Perle, Feith, and their fellow strategists "are walking a fine line between their loyalty to American governments and Israeli interests." The suggestion of dual loyalties is not a verboten subject in the Israeli press, as it is in the United States. Peace activist Uri Avnery, who knows Israeli Prime Minister Sharon well, has written that Sharon has long planned grandiose schemes for restructuring the Middle East and that "the winds blowing now in Washington remind me of Sharon. I have absolutely no proof that the Bushies got their ideas from him. But the style is the same."

LA Times: Israel Has Long Spied on U.S., Officials Say
"...The denials are laughable"

Contradicting Israel's contention that it does not spy on America, U.S. government officials say Israel secretly maintains a large and active intelligence-gathering operation in the United States, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

The officials said Israel has long attempted to recruit U.S. officials as spies and to procure classified documents, according to the Times.

Groups Rally to Lobby's Side as FBI Intensifies Israeli Espionage Probe

Questions Raised Over AIPAC's Tactics

Churchill 'Ordered Killing of Mussolini'
Benito Mussolini was not killed by Italian partisans but by two secret agents acting on orders from Winston Churchill. That is the startling conclusion of a new investigation into the death of Il Duce.

Britain's wartime Prime Minister was desperate, an Italian documentary claims, to prevent secret letters coming to light in which he had tried to induce Italy to make a separate peace with the Allies. This was in defiance of his agreement with President Franklin Roosevelt at Casablanca that the war could end only with the unconditional surrender of the Axis powers. The programme, co-produced by a veteran American journalist, Peter Tompkins, and to be broadcast on RAI, Italian state television, tomorrow alleges that it was to prevent these embarrassing letters coming to light that Churchill ordered the murder of Mussolini and his mistress, Clara Petacci.

FBI Informed White House of AIPAC Probe Two Years Ago
President Bush's top national security advisers were told more than two years ago of an FBI investigation into whether classified information was passed to Israel by a powerful pro-Israeli lobbying group, U.S. officials said on Thursday.

The counterintelligence investigation started earlier than the probe disclosed last week focusing on whether a Defense Department analyst passed secret documents about Iran to Israeli intelligence through the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC.

Friends in High Places
Israeli spy nest in the U.S. – Ashcroft says: 'Don't arrest them!'
by Justin Raimondo

"...If the authorities were watching AIPAC, and just happened to stumble on Franklin's clumsy efforts to pass documents to Israeli officials, the rest can be inferred: This is big, much bigger than Franklin, if it required a systematic and ongoing surveillance of AIPAC and Israeli government agents.

"AIPAC and its allies, Israel's amen corner in the U.S., are circling the wagons, denying everything, and Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League is actually demanding an investigation into who leaked the news of the investigation. No one has a right to know that Israel, the recipient of $3 trillion total U.S. "aid," is stabbing us in the back."

ADL Calls for Probe of Pentagon 'Mole' Leak
"A leak directed against a friendly country like Israel causes grave damage, and the current suspicions of spying damaged Israel, the local Jewish community, and relations between the two countries," Foxman said.

The Israel Espionage Probe: Does it Matter?
by Mark Weber
Sept. 1, 2004

The still unfolding story of Pentagon analyst Lawrence Franklin and his alleged spying for Israel has attracted wide media attention and generated considerable discussion. Details of the FBI's investigation of his activities are still coming to light.

But regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain: there will be no fundamental change in US policy regarding Israel and the Middle East.

Background: Not AIPAC's First Controversy
"A lobby is like a night flower; It thrives in the dark and dies in the sun."

So wrote Steven Rosen, AIPAC director of foreign policy issues, in an internal organizational memo several years ago.

Unfortunately for the influential pro-Israel lobbying group, this new affair is turning far too much of the media spotlight on an organization that prefers to work behind the scenes on Capitol Hill. But it is hardly the first time AIPAC has found itself at the center of public controversy, although never in such a serious matter as receiving classified security material.

Croatians Weep as Nazi Pride is Erased
Two plaques erected in Croatia to commemorate officials from Nazi times were removed amid heavy police security yesterday on the orders of the Zagreb government.

It was the first such "de-Nazification" action since the country became independent in 1991.

A plaque erected last week to honour Mile Budak, a writer who served as education minister in Croatia's Nazi-allied Ustasha government of 1941-45, was removed by workers in Lovinac, central Croatia.

Budak signed into force racial laws under which the Ustasha regime executed thousands of Jews, Serbs and gipsies.

Traitorous 'Conservatives'
Israeli Spies in Pentagon are Heroes to the Neocons
by Justin Raimondo

Even as the headlines were proclaiming their treason, AIPAC officials were feting Republicans at the GOP convention, braying that the charges are "outrageous." But what's outrageous is that so many prominent Republicans were openly consorting with an organization suspected of espionage, a claque of known fifth columnists who put the interests of a foreign country – Israel – above those of their own.
