Institute for Historical Review
Nothing better points up the importance of the Institute's work than the current Zionist-Jewish assault against Switzerland -- a massive propaganda and legal offensive built on the arrogant Holocaust "guilt" campaign.
The World Jewish Congress, the Israeli government, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, and other powerful Zionist-Jewish agencies, with the cooperation of major media and ambitious politicians, in recent months has been pressuring Swiss banks and citizens to turn over hundreds of millions of dollars. In a confidential paper, Switzerland's ambassador in Washington aptly described this campaign as a "war," and the Swiss president called the Jewish demands "extortion and blackmail."
Just as Israel and major Zionist-Jewish groups have successfully shaken down Germany and Austria for billions in past years, today Switzerland is their primary target. In the years to come, the World Jewish Congress and its allies will doubtless turn the screws on yet other countries.
Our enemies realize that the stakes in this international campaign are enormous -- affecting the future of our entire world.
They also recognize the Institute for Historical Review as one of their most defiant and effective adversaries. They know that, day in and day out, we're on the front line against these sinister and seemingly invincible forces, fighting their blizzard of pernicious historical lies and half-truths with liberating facts and information.
Underscoring the international scope of our work, we are pleased formally to welcome to our Journal's Editorial Advisory Committee (as we report in this issue) three scholars -- one each from Russia, South Africa and Switzerland. Our Advisory Committee now has 23 members, eleven from the United States and twelve from abroad, including 16 holders of doctoral degrees.
Because of the Institute's solidly-researched scholarship and unflinching dedication, our enemies justifiably regard the IHR as the most important center of its kind in the world. That's why such powerful Zionist-Jewish organizations as the Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Anti-Defamation League focus so much of their rage against us.
Some months ago, for example, the World Jewish Congress sent out a frantic letter to its vast mailing list appealing for money specifically to counter Holocaust revisionism. Signed by WJC president Edgar Bronfman, this letter cited the "60 Minutes" broadcast on which the IHR was mentioned. Complaining that "the growing numbers of revisionist supporters cannot be ignored," Bronfman asked for "a special contribution to the World Jewish Congress ... to help stop revisionism now, before its too late."
The desperation of our enemies is further proof that our hard work is paying off -- that we're making a real impact. A new sign of this (as we report in this Journal issue) is a recently published US Defense Department booklet that targets the work of our Institute as a potential threat to national security!
Of course, revisionists often pay a heavy price for their dedication. Many have been victims of legal persecution and brutal beatings -- as we detail in our Zionist Terror Network booklet and in the feature article on Jewish terrorism in the March-April 1996 Journal.
As you know, the financial and staffing difficulties due to the Carto crisis have made it impossible to bring out The Journal of Historical Review on time during the past year. Now, with the enclosed May-June 1997 issue, we resume regular publication. The last issue, dated March-April 1996 and marked Vol. 16, No. 2, was mailed out in October. This current, May-June 1997 issue is marked Vol. 16, No. 3. The numbering thus remains sequential, although volume 16 will span the years 1996 and 1997. Because Journal subscriptions are based on the number of issues, and not the calendar year, no subscriber will miss a single issue he's paid for.
As we've emphasized, defending the Institute against Willis Carto's destructive legal assault and "Big Lie" smear campaign during the past three years has diverted considerable time, money and energy.
Now, in the wake of our sweeping courtroom victory in this arduous (but still on-going) battle, we're able to catch our breath and recover. (In November a California Superior Court completely vindicated our charges against former associate Carto and foreign-born businessman Henry Fischer. Judge Maino ruled that Carto, Fischer and their colleagues illicitly took millions of dollars meant to further the work of the Institute.)
With the generous support of steadfast friends, we've pulled through this emergency. We've held the Institute on course -- keeping the cause of historical truth in the public eye, and strengthening our international network of activists and scholars.
With the worst of this crisis apparently behind us, our great task now is to repair the damage and rebuild. This means establishing the Institute on a solid financial footing, hiring new staff members, completing new and postponed publishing projects, keeping the Journal on schedule (while maintaining editorial standards), expanding our promotional work, and organizing another full-scale conference.
We're under no illusions about the magnitude of this task. Terribly overworked and financially strapped, we're rebuilding almost as if starting from scratch. But just as we mastered the life-threatening Carto crisis, we can and will surmount this new challenge.
With your continued support, we'll establish the Institute as an invincible bulwark -- as an even more dynamic and effective voice for the cause of truth in history.
