An Urgent Appeal!
Every day we get messages, letters and phone calls form people who tell us how much they appreciate our work. But to carry on, that’s not enough. We need donations from readers like you.
Each month it’s a major struggle to raise the money we need to pay the bills. But this summer we’re grappling with a really severe financial shortfall.
During this time of rising economic anxiety and ever more obvious national dissolution, the need for a vibrant and effective IHR has never been greater.

The Necessary War
William S. Lind
Pat Buchanan’s new book, Churchill, Hitler, and the Unnecessary War: How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World, is causing a stir, which is a good thing ... His book represents a counterattack in the necessary war, the war to introduce Americans to genuine history. At present, most Americans know only a comic-book version of history, one in which Germany deliberately started both World Wars as part of a drive to conquer the world, a drive stopped when valiant American armies defeated the German army... Debunking comic-book history and replacing it with the real thing is vital if America is to avoid the dual trap of cultural Marxism and Brave New World.
Russians Remember Murdered Tsar
BBC News
Thousands of Russians have been taking part in events to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the assassination of Tsar Nicholas II and his family. Russian Orthodox Christians held a service in Yekaterinburg, where the royal family were killed, and then followed an eleven mile procession ... Now, almost two decades after the end of the communist state which the Bolsheviks fought to create, the tsar is revered as a saint - a martyr who died for his faith. Just before the 90th anniversary of his death, Nicholas II pulled into the lead in an online poll to decide on the greatest hero in Russian history.
US Planned Nerve Gas Attack on Australian Troops
The New Zealand Herald
The United States planned to gas Australian troops in experiments with two of the most lethal nerve gases ever devised, newly declassified files have revealed. Previously top secret documents have shown that even as the world was outlawing chemical weapons at the height of the Cold War, Washington sought Canberra's permission to test sarin and VX gas on diggers in remote Queensland. The documents, shown on Channel Nine's Sunday programme yesterday, indicate that US military scientists wanted to bomb and spray 200 "mainly Australian" troops with the deadly nerve agents in the 1960s.
Irving Speaks in New York, Despite Protest
Walter Pfaeffle - Germerica
Irving began his US speaking tour on Wednesday in New York under police protection but not at the designated site. A group of "anarchists" identifying themselves as Anti-Racist Action (ARA) blocked him. They stated on their website that they had successfully prevented Irving from speaking at a West Side Church by labeling him a Holocaust denier and Nazi sympathizer. Word of the speech cancelation was also carried by Jewish Telegraph Agency (JTA), which quoted an anonymous caller. In fact, Irving's New York representative managed to change the venue to another location on Manhattan's East Side.
Hitler Was a `Good Boss,’ Says Former Bodyguard
Haaretz (Israel)
Adolf Hitler gave Rochus Misch only a momentary glance when he was first introduced to the young man who was to go on to become the Fuhrer's head bodyguard. Misch, now 91 and the only living member of the group that was in Hitler's bunker when the Fuhrer committed suicide, reveals his own impressions of the Nazi leader in his book "The Last Witness," published earlier this month in Germany - ...In the inner circle, Hitler was a good boss," he recalled in the book. "In the living quarters and the work room Hitler was a very relaxed man. He had a deep and quiet voice. There was no need to be scared if you made a mistake."
US Reportedly Gives Israel `Amber Light’ for Iran Strike
Haaretz (Israel)
U.S. President George W. Bush has given Israel an "amber light" to begin preparations for a military attack on Iran, a Pentagon official told The Sunday Times this week. "Amber means get on with your preparations, stand by for immediate attack and tell us when you're ready," the official said. The official told the Times that Bush informed the Israeli government he would back an Israeli plan to strike Iran's main nuclear sites with long-range aerial weapons if diplomatic talks over Tehran's contentious atomic program broke down. Bush's voice of support comes despite U.S. military officials' opposition to the risks of an aerial strike on Iran, the official told The Times.
British `Race Hate’ Men Seek Asylum in US
Yorkshire Post (Britain)
Two men convicted of publishing race-hate articles on the internet have skipped bail and fled to the United States to claim political asylum, the Yorkshire Post can reveal.
Simon Sheppard and Stephen Whittle were given bail by a judge at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, despite having been found guilty of a series of race-related offences. The pair were due to return to court on Monday while a jury continued deliberating over further charges, but they failed to show up. Last night Sheppard, 51, and Whittle, 41, were being held by immigration officials at Los Angeles Airport - outside the jurisdiction of the British court system.
Austrian City Removes Aphrodite Statue Given by Hitler
Reuters
The Austrian city of Linz has removed a statue of Aphrodite from a park after learning that it was a present from Hitler, officials said on Friday. Authorities in Austria's third largest city said they checked the origins of the bronze statue after someone left an unsigned note on it stating that the statue of the Greek goddess of love was a gift from the Nazi leader. Research in Linz's city archives determined that the claim was correct, and the statue was immediately removed and put in storage, a city statement said.
`Warriors for Zion’ at California University
Jon Wiener -- The Nation (New York)
Columbia and Barnard aren't the only campuses where right-wing Zionists have fought bitter campaigns in the name of defending Israel and Jewish students. The unlikely site of the latest battle, as intense and angry as anything in Manhattan, is the University of California, Irvine (UCI). I should know - I teach there. While the campaigns at Columbia and Barnard failed to persuade those schools to deny tenure or otherwise penalize faculty members the right-wing Zionists found objectionable, at UCI the professor who occupies the chair in Jewish history, Daniel Schroeter, has decided to leave after being condemned for failing to support the right-wing Jews' campaign.
Mainstream Media Silent on Bugliosi Book About Bush
The New York Times
As a Los Angeles county prosecutor, Vincent Bugliosi batted a thousand in murder cases: 21 trials, 21 convictions, including the Charles Manson case in 1971. As an author, Mr. Bugliosi has written three No. 1 best sellers and won three Edgar Allan Poe awards, the top honor for crime writers. More than 30 years ago he co-wrote the best seller "Helter Skelter," about the Manson case ... His latest, a polemic with the provocative title "The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder," has risen to best-seller status with nary a peep from the usual outlets that help sell books: cable television and book reviews in major daily newspapers.
Independence Lost
Patrick J. Buchanan
... No longer free of foreign entanglements, as Thomas Jefferson urged, we now have commitments to defend 50 countries. The old Hamiltonian policy of "Prosper America First" has given way to worship of a Global Economy, at whose altars we sacrifice daily the vital interests of our own manufacturers and workers. "Interdependence" is now the desired end of the new elite. And so we have become again a dependent nation. We borrow from Europe and Japan to defend the oil of Europe and Japan in the Persian Gulf. We borrow from China to buy the goods of China. We are as dependent on foreign borrowing as we are on foreign oil.
Churchill and the Jews: A Lifelong Friendship
Glenn Frankel - The Washington Post
... Churchill's profound admiration for the Jews, which was not shared by many of his closest political colleagues, was all the more amazing because it survived the rise of Bolshevism, which Churchill abhorred and which he believed was dominated, intellectually and politically, by men and women of Jewish origin. It even survived the turbulent years during and after World War II when Zionist extremists conducted a campaign of political murder against British officials, policemen and soldiers.
Zionist Historians Confirm Role of Jewish Money in Politics
Philip Weiss
... Obama is playing Twister on Israel and Jerusalem because of Jewish influence (as the Nation's Ari Berman said some weeks back in a rare violation of the taboo). Obama seeks Jewish media support, he wants Jewish money, which is central to the American political process ... I need to take this issue of Jewish money on directly. It is simply too important to our politics. So I'm going to quote from four books, two of them by rightwing Zionists, that speak frankly of the role of Jewish money in establishing and securing the state of Israel. All emphases are mine.
A Straight Look at the Jewish Lobby
Mark Weber
... For decades the US has provided Israel with crucial military, diplomatic and financial backing, including more than $3 billion each year in aid. Why is the US such a staunch bastion of support for Israel? ... Although Jews make up only two or three percent of the US population, they wield immense power and influence - much more than any other ethnic or religious group ... The "Jewish lobby" is a decisive factor in US support for Israel. Jewish-Zionist interests are not identical to American interests. In fact, they often conflict.
Jews Who Counterfeited British Notes for the Nazis
Forward (New York)
"The Counterfeiters" purports to tell the story of how Jews at Sachsenhausen concentration camp produced near-perfect forgeries of the British pound for the Nazis ... What is perhaps the greatest irony of the whole saga, which was left out of the Ruzowitsky film entirely, is that after the defeat of the Third Reich, large bundles of fake pounds ended up in the hands of the Jewish underground, which used the forged notes to buy equipment and to bring displaced persons to the Holy Land...
More US Mayors Publicly Oppose US Strike Against Iran
Cities for Progress
As many as 36 mayors from across the United States have signed a resolution opposing US military action against Iran. The mayors declare that "no compelling evidence has been presented to document that Iran poses a real and imminent threat to the security and safety of the United States that would justify an unprovoked unilateral pre-emptive military attack." They conclude by urging "Congress to prohibit the use of funds to carry out any military action against Iran without explicit Congressional authorization."
Looking Into the Lobby: At the AIPAC Conference
Philip Weiss - The American Conservative
... This was my first AIPAC conference, and the first surprise was how blatant the business of wielding influence is. The conference makes no bones about this function, the most savage expression of which is the Tuesday dinner at which AIPAC performs its "roll call," where the names of all the politicians who have come to the conference are read off from the stage by three barkers in near auctioneer fashion. The pols try to outdo one another in I-love-Israel encomia.
Russia Bans Hitler `Table Talk’ Book
Reuters
A Russian court has banned a book about Adolf Hitler by late British historian Hugh Trevor-Roper, saying quotes attributed to the Nazi leader insult Russians and Jews, prosecutors said on Tuesday. Under anti-extremism laws the court banned the 1953 book "Hitler's Table Talk: 1941-1944", which records Hitler's sometimes racist ramblings on a wide range of topics. Trevor-Roper, Regis professor of history at Oxford University between 1957 and 1980, wrote what is considered one of the classic accounts of the fall of Nazi Germany: "The Last Days of Hitler".
Auschwitz Through the Lens of the SS: Album Photos of the Camp
US Holocaust Memorial Museum (Washington, DC)
Karl Höcker's photograph album includes both documentation of official visits and ceremonies at Auschwitz as well as more personal photographs depicting the myriad of social activities that he and other members of the Auschwitz camp staff enjoyed. Many of the most remarkable photographs are taken at Solahütte, a little known SS resort some 30 km south of Auschwitz on the Sola River.
It’s All One War
Adam Buckman -- New York Post
Members of the Greatest Generation - especially those with weak hearts - might want to steer clear of a PBS documentary that suggests the Allied victory in World War II was "tainted" and questions whether it can even be called a victory. Moreover, the documentary, titled "The War of the World: A New History of the 20th Century," asserts that the war could only be won by forming an unholy alliance with a dictator - Joseph Stalin, who was as brutal as the one they were fighting, Adolf Hitler - and by adopting the same "pitiless" and "remorseless" tactics practiced by the enemy.
New War Brewing: US, Israel Take Dangerous Steps
Eric Margolis
... Senior Israeli officials are openly threatening to attack Iran's nuclear installations before President George W. Bush's term expires. Early this month Israel staged a large, U.S.-approved exercise using F-15s and F-16s to rehearse an attack over 900 miles -- precisely the distance to Iran's nuclear facilities. The highly regarded American journalist Seymour Hersh just confirmed that the U.S. Congress authorized a $400-million plan to overthrow Iran's government and incite ethnic unrest. This column reported a year ago that U.S. and British special forces were operating in Iran, preparing for a massive air campaign.
Preparing the Battlefield: Secret US Moves Against Iran
Seymour M. Hersh -- The New Yorker
Late last year, Congress agreed to a request from President Bush to fund a major escalation of covert operations against Iran, according to current and former military, intelligence, and congressional sources. These operations, for which the President sought up to four hundred million dollars, were described in a Presidential Finding signed by Bush, and are designed to destabilize the country’s religious leadership. The covert activities involve support of the minority Ahwazi Arab and Baluchi groups and other dissident organizations. They also include gathering intelligence about Iran’s suspected nuclear-weapons program.
U.S. Attack on Iran? Not Coming Soon
The Christian Science Monitor
A preemptive US attack on Iranian nuclear facilities may be unlikely anytime soon. But that does not mean it is off the table forever. And Israel - worried about the possibility of a hostile, nuclear-armed regional neighbor - may have its own timetable for possible military action. That is the bottom-line conclusion of a number of US-based experts who have talked in recent days about the possibility of any preemptive strike on Iran intended to halt its uranium enrichment program. US-Iranian relations may well be one of the two or three toughest foreign-policy problems the next American president will have to handle.
U.S. `Permitted’ South Korean Executions
The Associated Press
In the early days of the Korean War, American officers observed, photographed and confidentially reported on wholesale executions by their South Korean ally, a secretive slaughter believed to have killed 100,000 or more leftists and supposed sympathizers, usually without charge or trial, in a few weeks in mid-1950. Extensive archival research by The Associated Press has found no indication Far East commander Gen. Douglas MacArthur took action to stem the summary mass killing, knowledge of which reached top levels of the Pentagon and State Department in Washington, where it was classified "secret" and filed away.
Jefferson Bible Reveals Founding Father's View of God, Faith
Los Angeles Times
Making good on a promise to a friend to summarize his views on Christianity, Thomas Jefferson set to work with scissors, snipping out every miracle and inconsistency he could find in the New Testament Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Then, relying on a cut-and-paste technique, he reassembled the excerpts into what he believed was a more coherent narrative and pasted them onto blank paper -- alongside translations in French, Greek and Latin ... Like many other upper-class, educated citizens of the new republic, including George Washington, Jefferson was a deist.
Bush Inspires Least Confidence as World Leader
Jim Lobe
While historians here debate whether George W. Bush has been the worst president in U.S. history, a global consensus that he inspires the least confidence of all the world's major leaders appears to have emerged. An average of two out of three respondents in 20 nations whose combined population make up 60 percent of the world's population said they either had "no" or "not too much confidence" in Bush "to do the right thing regarding world affairs", by far the highest negative rating of eight leaders featured in a new survey released here Monday by WorldPublicOpinion.org (WPO).
George W. Bush Has `Gotten Away With Murder’
Vincent Bugliosi
Former California prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi wants President Bush charged with murder. Bugliosi ... who in the early 1970s successfully prosecuted Charles Manson for the murder of Sharon Tate and six others ... lays out his case against Bush in The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder. "My motivation for writing this book is simple - to bring about justice," Bugliosi says in a video posted on the book’s web site. Video runtime: 3:55 mins.

Hitler, Owens and the 1936 Olympics Myth
Rick Shenkman
Everyone knows that at the 1936 Olympics Hitler snubbed Jesse Owens. As the story goes, after Owens won one gold medal, Hitler, incensed, stormed out of Olympic Stadium so he wouldn't have to congratulate Owens on his victory ... Several other misconceptions about the 1936 Olympics are prevalent. Not only was Owens not rebuffed by Hitler, Owens wasn't shunned by the German audience at the Berlin stadium either ... It is forgotten that Germany managed to pick up more medals than all the other countries combined.
Jesse Owens, Man and Myth at the 1936 Olympics
Peter Ephross -- Forward (New York)
Hitler’s snub of sprinter Jesse Owens at the 1936 Berlin Olympics is well known: Unwilling to recognize a black runner’s prowess, the story goes, Hitler refused to acknowledge Owens after the American athlete won the 100-meter dash. Indeed, Owens himself repeatedly recounted the incident late in his life. There’s only one problem: The story is most likely apocryphal. As sports journalist Jeremy Schaap points out in his vividly written "Triumph: The Untold Story of Jesse Owens and Hitler’s Olympics," American newspaper accounts filed by onsite journalists reported that Owens and Hitler exchanged waves after Owens won the 100-meter dash.
Israel Prodding U.S. To Attack Iran
CBS News
Joint Chiefs Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen leaves Tuesday night on an overseas trip that will take him to Israel, reports CBS News national security correspondent David Martin. The trip has been scheduled for some time but U.S. officials say it comes just as the Israelis are mounting a full court press to get the Bush administration to strike Iran's nuclear complex. CBS consultant Michael Oren says Israel doesn't want to wait for a new administration ... Israel's message is simple: If you don't, we will. Israel held a dress rehearsal for a strike earlier this month, but military analysts say Israel...
Morality and World War Two: Trotskyite vs. Christian
Patrick J. Buchanan
... According to British historians, however, Churchill ordered the initial bombing of German cities on his first day in office, the very first day of the Battle of France, on May 10, 1940 ... "So far as air strategy was concerned," adds British historian A.J.P. Taylor, "the British outdid German frightfulness first in theory, later in practice, and a nation which claimed to be fighting for a moral cause gloried in the extent of its immoral acts."

Irving Describes His Austria Imprisonment at IHR Meeting
In an engaging talk at a memorable IHR meeting, June 14, 2008, David Irving described his harrowing arrest in Austria, his sensational trial in Vienna, and his 13 months of imprisonment. The British historian also spoke about wartime Germany’s harsh treatment of Jews, presenting a view of "the Holocaust" similar to the one he laid out more than 30 years ago in the first edition of Hitler's War. Mark Weber took aim at the American national mythology about World War II. He spoke about the two new books by Patrick J. Buchanan and Nicholson Baker, praising them as important antidotes to the familiar, much propagandized portrayal of the war.

First-Rate Talks Mark Successful IHR Meeting
First-rate talks by three seasoned speakers marked a memorable IHR meeting on May 24, 2008, in southern California. Paul Fromm reported with insight and humor on the battle for on-line free speech in Canada. Mark Weber, in a closely reasoned and well-referenced lecture, dismantled the myth of World War II as a "good war" clash between virtue and evil. Mark Green explained why the dread label of "anti-Semitism" is inaccurate and bogus.

The `Good War’ Myth of World War II
By Mark Weber
How accurate is this hallowed portrayal of America’s role in World War II? As we shall see, it does not hold up under close examination ... The three Allied leaders accomplished what they accused the Axis leaders of Germany, Italy and Japan of conspiring to achieve: world domination ... Presidential deception to justify war did not start with George W. Bush. Americans who express admiration for the US role in World War II, and for Franklin Roosevelt’s presidential leadership, have little moral right to complain when presidents follow his example and lead the country into war by breaking the law, subverting the Constitution, and lying to the people.

Israel at 60: A Grim Balance Sheet
By Mark Weber ... Contrary to claims made by American and Israeli political leaders, US support for Israel has never been in America’s authentic national interest, nor has it been based on a commitment to democracy and freedom ... In spite of its impressive military arsenal, and virtually unlimited support from the United States, Israel’s long-term prospects are not good ... Although Israel is a formidable military power, it is an aberrant, crisis-prone state, artificially kept alive with outside support, and based on an unworkable ideology.
